The month of June has been an outstanding month for karters and for the team at Karting New South Wales.
With careful management of Covid-19 top of mind, KNSW were still able to hold eleven (11) race meetings, with over 200 KNSW licenses issued and 652 race entries from all over Australia – just in the month of June. Our KNSW Clubs were provided the opportunity to showcase their hard work with Covid-preparations – particularly with the larger events held at Canberra and Coffs Harbour this month.
The NSW Government introduced additional requirements for organisers of sporting activities that involved gatherings of more than 20 people – referring to it as ‘a return to community sport’ to be effective from 01 July 2020. We updated our Guidelines, Covid-Safe Plans and implemented new QR-Code Scanning Technology to facilitate an easy return to the sport – particularly for our KNSW Club Volunteers.
KNSW was also the beneficiary of a substantial grant from the NSW Government as part of the Community Sport Recovery Package – which in turn also includes grants available to our Affiliated Clubs as part of the Grass Sports Fund.
We also held our first SKC meeting with our KNSW Club Delegates via zoom on 27 June 2020.
We welcomed Holly Holden-Stewart to the KNSW Team as MPIO Officer, as well as on-boarded Ben Aylen as our new Director for Administration and Shane Glanville as our new Director for Financial Services.
As we go to print, the Victorian Premier – Dan Andrews has announced Stage 3 restrictions for Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire of the next 6 weeks. Our thoughts are with our Victorian karting friends and families – as we know community lockdowns have a significant impact on people, communities and the local economy.
It is important for us not to become complacent and ensure we continue to practise social distancing and good hygiene practices in accordance with our Covid-Safe Plans.
As competitors, we should also continue to acknowledge the hard work of our KNSW Club Volunteers, particularly with all the additional Covid-19 requirements now thrust upon them.
Momentum continues to build for KNSW and we look forward to some great racing events scheduled for July 2020!
