We continue to navigate through the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic and its effect upon our sport.
In August 2020, we saw a mild increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in New South Wales, which prompted the NSW Chief Health Officer to issue additional recommendations to community sporting organisations.
KNSW followed these recommendations and rescheduled all of its regional and zonal series events for a period of six weeks. Permits continued to be issued for Local Club Day Events.
We also recommended the wearing of face masks at KNSW Sanctioned Events, where it is difficult to maintain a 1.5m distance from others.
At the time of release, I am pleased to advise that the implementation of KNSW’s Covid-19 QR-Code System has been nominated for the “Play by the Rules Award 2020” as a State Sporting Organisation initiative which has helped clubs navigate through the pandemic crisis. It has been a fantastic initiative developed by our volunteers!
With some rescheduling of karting events in accordance with the NSW Chief Health Officer’s recommendations, KNSW still held thirteen (13) club day race meetings, issued 132 licences and processed over 864 race entries.
The KNSW Board also approved and released the KNSW Strategic Plan – 2020 to 2023. We look forward to developing & promoting karting throughout Australia for the benefit of all – ensuring that we have more people karting more often!
In furtherance of this plan, we were pleased to appoint Brett Staples in the position of KNSW Development Officer. Further details of his appointment are set out in this newsletter.
Our website continues to be well-utilised, with over 36,270 hits for the month of August – which is 8,720 hits more than July!.
Finally, the NSW government has also released a number of grants, which we would strongly encourage each of our clubs to review and apply for. One of the benefits of being affiliated with a state sporting organisation – means your club may be eligible for additional grant monies – so be sure to check them all out!
We hope you enjoy this month’s KNSW’s MyKarting Newsletter!
