It was a race meeting like no other. Over 178 pre-entries were received by KNSW for Round 4 of the Southern Stars Series held over the weekend at Circuit Mark Webber and hosted by Canberra Kart Racing Club.
It was the first karting competition to be held in the ACT since all racing ceased in late March 2020. And although things were a little different – karters from all around the country were excited to come and race – they were not disappointed. ‘Racing on this track with these numbers was awesome….what an awesome track – we’ll be back’ was just some of the feedback received by KNSW.
Canberra Kart Racing Club, having only held one previous race meeting since opening its new track extension in March, pulled out all stops to ensure the Club would be COVIDSafe and comply with all KNSW Guidelines for this weekend’s big event.
The Board of KNSW extends a huge thank you to the CKRC Club, its Committee Members, Officials, Volunteers, the Southern Stars Committee and wider KNSW Team for bringing it all together. It was an awesome race meeting, managing the logistics of juniors and seniors, karts and trailers, and all in a COVIDSafe environment.
In addition, a big thanks to all of the competitors who travelled far and wide, complied with KNSW COVIDSafe requirements to enjoy one of the best weekends in racing we have had to date.
Next weekend our racing calendar focuses back on Club racing, with events scheduled at Dubbo, Lismore, Combined Districts and Wagga. Canberra will also be hosting Round 2 of the 4SKA Pro-Axle Canberra Cup.
KNSW has worked hard with numerous government stakeholders to ensure kart racing can take place in both NSW and ACT in full compliance with the law. In addition, we have worked together with our Member Clubs to get them back racing. Racing helps re-boot our sport, our kart suppliers, our driver trainers, our wider karting economy and tourism in our regional towns.
